Approximately 20,000 or 20% of women in prostitution in Bombay are under 18.
Every day, about 200 girls and women in India enter prostitution, 80% of them against their will.
Men who believe that AIDS and other STDs can be cured by having sex with a virgin, are forcing young girls into the sex industry; seven year old girls are neither uncommon nor the youngest.

When you hear this word, what do you think? Do you think blacks on ships crossing the Atlantic ocean? Or perhaps you see them in the cotton fields? But I mean that was way over 100 years ago, slavery doesn’t happen today. Especially not in the United States, right? Wrong.
Human Trafficking is…
Can journalism participate in becoming the story?
American news station CNN, recently started a new campaign called: ‘the CNN freedom project’ in which they want to join the fight against child and human sex trafficking. With this project, CNN is joining ranks with several American celebs,…

America’s Youth and Project Green Light’s Response:
Recent media attention that focused on the young women who report experiencing forced prostitution in Columbus has caused public outcry. Community leaders are calling for education and empowerment for youth to protect themselves from exploitation. Green Light answers this call with a three-tiered prevention strategy: primary prevention through education, secondary prevention through empowerment and mentoring, and tertiary prevention through crisis assistance. Green Light programming derives from proven prevention models and community-based transformation focused on maximizing the assets in Columbus and surrounding communities.
In the US, up to 18,000 youths are exploited for sex every year, with 300,000 more at risk. These youth are often labeled as criminals and are re-victimized through societal stigma and the juvenile justice system. With the average age of entry into prostitution at 12-14 in the United States, sex trafficking of children creates a future generation of adult prostitutes and continues this oppressive cycle.
So many people have no idea that slavery still exists, or that it happens in the U.S. An estimated 30 million people are in bondage today. Slavery still exists. And we need to do something about it. Wouldn’t you want someone to fight for you if you were enslaved?
A friend and I did a photo shoot focusing on the saying ‘freedom still exists.’ We painted it in black on signs and on ourselves. I posted one of the other pictures awhile ago and here is another one of me.
Human trafficking could be the ultimate organized crime. Essentially, people are tricked or stolen away from their homes and turned into slaves. Girls and women become prostitutes, children are trafficked for adoptions purposes, still others are forced into bondage as laborers.
Human trafficking is worth a relatively paltry $32 billion today, but it’s the fastest growing organized crime in the world. At least 27 million people around the world were slaves in 2008, according to American Public Radio. That number will only go up. In Europe and North America, sex trafficking alone generated as much as $9 billion in 2004. When you consider the low overhead involved, human trafficking could be one of the most profitable businesses around.
This is Youngran Seo. I was not interested in fundraising. I would rather concentrate on study. However, while fundraising for TU Freeset, I found it fascinating. It is most fascinating event that I have had!! It is so amazing that we are getting together, creating ideas, and making it to become true. We are not just experiencing about helping people but developing our ability to make it come true what we planned. Also, I may not afraid of starting a business after graduate. This is because I have experienced how that I can approach to people to work and negotiate about what I am going to accomplish. On the other hand, I have felt guilty about that I cannot sell many TU Freeset T-shirts. This is because if I can sell more T-shirts, I can help more people in India. I am thinking about what I can do something to maximize our contribution. And I am thinking about Indian women who may need my help somewhere in Kolkata, India. Before starting to sell T-shirts for Freeset, I believed that many people are willing to buy our T-shirts because they can have T-shirts and at that same time, they can help Indian women. But people are not willing to buy it. Thereupon, I realized the “power of marketing,” which means that I need to do marketing to encourage people to purchase it. People do not buy a product not just because products quality is nice. I need to appeal our T-shirts and tell a story to engage people to Freeset T-shirts as it is a worthy choice.
When I first heard about this project I considered myself very naive at that moment. Living in the United States I never thought human trafficking was such a big issue as it really is. Watching the videos of these women that have been given back a chance rendered me speechless. I could not believe after all these women have been through they can put smiles on their faces and go on enjoying life. I admired that strength in them and in return they inspired me.
Sexism in India is very much a real problem.
"Bihar leads in cases of domestic violence, with 59% of married women suffering
domestic violence. The NCRB recorded 7,548 cases of crime, with 1,555 rape cases,
1,172 dowry death cases, and 1,260 kidnapping and abduction cases.”
These women deserve a chance to rise to their full potential. They deserve dignity, respect, and pride in themselves. It is important to note that Freeset does not rescue these women and they empower them by giving opportunity in the community that the human trafficking is taking place in. It is a self sustaining business that promotes opportunity for freedom. I admire that business is being used towards such a good cause and hope that more will arise just like this one. No matter who you are you have the chance to improve the quality of this world.
“You must be the change you want to see in the world.”
Live and breath these wise words.

Hi everyone! My name is Jisoo, a member of TU freeset, helping women who suffer from sex trade in India. First and foremost, I really appreciate everyone’s helps and supports for us. We have been going well thanks to everyone. However, we still need more your supports and donation so that we can achieve our goal of the project.
Please think about your family and friends around you, and remember that it is not for us, but it is for women, can be someone’s mother, daughter, and family. It would be a great chance to ponder over the issue in depth then supporting them as a socially responsible person. You will be able to rescue the women, and empower them to have new lives.
Even if you are not available to purchase our products, or donate directly, there are many opportunities to donate in a variety of ways through the official Freeset websites, www.freesetglobal.com, and our blog, http://tufreeset.tumblr.com . Additionally, you may find us every Thursday at the Alter Hall lobby if you are involving in Temple University.
